Childhood and Study

Pianist Elizabeth Eunji Mun (pronounced; Moon) was born and grew up with her Christian family in Seoul, South Korea. She began studying piano at age three. She first gained public attention at age eight when she won the grand prize at the Grand Prix Seoul Music Festival. She expanded her musical studies in Seoul and in Fontenay-le-Comte, France for several years under Soo-Ryeon Kim, Hélene Yoon, Françoise Thinat, Pierre Réach and Michel Moragues.

Advanced Study

In 2014, Liz was awarded a Master of Music degree in Solo Piano Performance with scholarships from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under Graeme McNaught. She also studied Collaborative Music as a second major and holds a certificate in Classical Improvisation. While studying in the UK, she received a Distinction for her research on Color Visualization and collaboration with fine artists and dancers in the creative process.

After graduating, followed by the debut of an invited solo recital at the St. Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral Church for 2014 Edinburgh International Festival Fringe, Liz moved to Paris to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris under Bruno Rigutto and certificated an artist diploma course in Piano Performance. She is a recipient of talented scholarship at The Catholic University of America of doctorate study but currently deferred.

Achievements

In 2015, she released an album, “Liz Blue’s”, which was inspired by the connections between music and visual arts. The album featured her artwork and performances of pieces she composed and arranged – including traditional sounds of countries that she lived in, plus some of her favorite hymns.

In 2016, Liz was an invited guest at a Radio FM Kukak broadcast as a pianist and composer, the same year she performed Beethoven’s first piano concerto with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.

Not too long after the performance, Liz moved to the United States, where she soon was awarded the 2nd prize in BMTG International Piano Competition & 1st prize for the Peskanov Music Award, having a fantastic debut at the winner’s concert in Carnegie Hall, NYC.

In 2018, Maestro Peskanov highly spoke on her performance at Carnegie Hall – “Liz Mun’s playing was filled with strong passion, grace and lyricism”. She was highlighted in New Bern Sun Journal. soon after, her interview can be found on the website Liz has given recitals in Switzerland, France, Italy, and throughout South Korea.

Since 2017, She is actively engaged in solo and chamber performances in the states, including the venue Baruch Performing Art Center, Miller Hall and Carnegie Hall in NY, Library of Congress in DC, Wolf Trap in VA.

Career

She recently completed a chamber recital tour to LA, TX and NC with Kim Quartet while actively performing for the community.
A passionate musician, Liz has been continuing the creative works with her production. She was featured on Blender Magazine, Paris, France as a jazz hiphop music producer (Interview can be found on the website) and collaborating music and arts with internationally well-known musicians & artists.

Also, a dedicated teacher, Liz served as a coach at Craven Community College, teaching Artist, Mason Academy at George Mason University. She also served as a music director at the chapel of Marine Corps Air Station, New River, NC.

She recently moved to DC and has been serving as a vocal coach at Morgan State University, Washington National Opera Institute and Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She is also serving as a music director at Peace Lutheran Church, Alexandria, VA.

Personal Life

Beyond her career, Liz has a deep love for spreading positive messages through her gift & hopes to use it to uplift and give back to the community.
